US: Skies to remain cloudy, cold and snowy weather continues

United States: Steve Lyttle, Former Charlotte Observer weather writer shared the weather update for Carolina, United States, it is going to snow 12 inches in Charlotte just a few days before Christmas.

He took to his official social media account and mentioned in the weather update, “I mean, is it going to snow 12 inches in Charlotte just a few days before Christmas? If you’ve been following some of the social media posts the last few days, you might be getting all excited about a pre-Christmas winter storm. And there’s also talk of another storm around December 26 or 27.”

Steve highlighted, here is the truth, people don’t know that he likes the system that WCNC’s Brad Panovich uses. First, look for the pattern. Second, look for indications that a real, live, honest-to-goodness storm will develop, then go out and panic, buying up all the bread and milk.

He said they would have a pattern. Computer guidance is firm on the idea that a big blast of polar air will descend into the central and eastern United States later next week (around Thursday). They are talking about temperatures 15-20 or so degrees below seasonal norms. That means highs in the 30s and lows in the teens. If people will add moisture (i.e., a storm system) to that, then there’s winter precipitation.

The problem is that the computer models are bickering with each other about the path a potential Dec. 22-23 storm might take. One of the models is showing the system diving deep into the South and then moving up the coast. That would mean a solid chance of wintry precipitation for the people. Two other models are showing the system diving south — but remaining north of citizens. Hence, no wintry stuff.

So it’s too early to worry about what might fall. But the cold air will be significant, and we can pretty much count on a wintry Christmas holiday this year.
