Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, hosted International women’s Day honoured the first female Governor General of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dame Marcella Liburd and several remarkable women who put significant contributions to the overall development of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Additionally, PM Terrance Drew congratulated all the extraordinary women recognized for their work in science, the digital, blue, and green economies and other areas.
Furthermore, Dr Terrance Drew quoted, “I had the privilege of presenting the Ceiling Shatter Award to the first female Governor General of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd GCMG, JP.”
In addition to this, PM Terrance Drew extended by praising Dame Marcella Liburdand and remarked that she had played a significant role in the advancement of women within the Federation, particularly as Minister of Health, Community Development, Social Services, Culture and Gender Affairs, at the time when women empowerment was not received.
PM Terrance Drew also added about Dame Marcella in the speech. He said that she had gained national and regional recognition throughout her career for her significant contributions to gender affairs through her excellency. She also continues serving people with humility, professionalism, and bravery. She is an incredible role model for her country who inspires across the region and generations.
Meanwhile, the Department of Gender Affairs also voluntarily contributed to the occasion and ended International Women’s Day by paying homage to several remarkable women who have significantly contributed to the overall development of St. Kitts and Nevis at the annual awards ceremony.
