Antigua: On Friday, Liberta Primary School was the second school in Antigua and Barbuda to benefit from the EU Outdoor Learning Spaces project. The EU team presented benches, bins, signage, and fruit trees supplied by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Outdoor learning spaces are linked to several benefits – improved focus, creativity, mental health, physical & social skills, as well as decreased school violence and deepened environmental awareness.
This initiative is also ongoing in Barbados, Dominica and Grenada, and EU Delegation to Eastern Caribbean States looks forward to expanding it to other schools and islands.
Villa Primary School was the first school to benefit from the EU Outdoor Learning Spaces project. Last Thursday, a team of EU staff was warmly welcomed by the Villa Primary School in Antigua for the launch of the EU Outdoor Learning Spaces project.
It is a partnership between the EU and Antigua to provide children with the benefits of outdoor learning, such as improved motivation, better health, enhanced social and communication skills, good behaviour and Reduced Stress Levels.
At Villa Primary School, the team handed over benches, bins and signages intending to enhance the outdoor learning environment and promote active engagement.
The Prime Minister of Antigua, Gaston Browne, was also invited to the launch, and he was seen planting fruit trees provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The primary objective of promoting outdoor learning projects is to develop children for physical and social activities with education side by side.
Outdoor learning has several benefits essential for every child in his growing years. The children can acquire better health by learning in an open environment. He can experience more enhanced Communication And Socio-Emotional Skills.
Children learning in an outdoor school were always motivated and could handle stressful situations more efficiently than others.
