Drummond Islands, the seventh largest lake island in the world, are one of Michigan, USA’s most attractive tourist destinations. Numerous tourists from various countries visit these islands to discover their magnificence.
Drummond Islands has several public beaches. If an individual is interested in visiting Drummond Island, he/she must keep these public beaches in mind to help plan the trip.
Big Shoal Bay
This beach is the most beach-like of all Drummond Island beaches. It’s got mostly Sandy shores and a few picnic tables to relax at. It does have some big rocks and is a good spot to look for puddingstones.
-Easy to reach on a fully paved road.
-Located in the southeast of the island
-Porta potty available
-Hiking trail behind the parking lot with massive mossy boulders – {it’s like a mini “Narnia” if you don’t want to hike 1-2 miles}
Glen Cove
Is the most remote of the 3 beaches, it was also significantly quieter. A number of people arrived via kayak. The waters are super calm here and if you keep your shoes on you can walk along the expansive beach within the cove.
-Will need to drive on unpaved roads, but they are easy to navigate in any car.
-Carry bug spray as the biting flies were prevalent here!
-Park here if not in a 4×4 to hike to the Steps at Marble Head
Drummond Island Township Park
To swim in the most comfortable water to be found in the Great Lakes, head to the township beach. Its located within the Rabbit Bay and has shallow waters to swim or Wade in. It’s so warm my husband got in – and he NEVER gets in at any Great Lakes beach (too cold for him). There’s also a small island close to shore to walk out to.
-It’s pretty rocky so carry water shoes!
-Easy to reach & closest to the ferry on the west side of the island.
-Also a campground! Does not take reservations, first come first serve.
