Michigan witnesses snow surge, blocks roads and transportation

United States: Western Michigan-Central Michigan was covered with a snow bowl last night. There was a blast of heavy snow that aimed at the Great Lakes over the upcoming several days.

Autumn has been unusually warm, so the Great Lakes waters are warmer than normal. Send a blast of cold air across that warm water, and presto! Huge lake-effect snowfalls!

Down here, people get plenty of cold air for the next several days. On November 18, the morning will bring our most freezing temperatures since last winter, and everyone will get a reinforcing shot of cold air over the weekend.

But the Thanksgiving holiday is beginning to come into view now, and the view is rather wet. It looks as if a storm system will be in our area, with temperatures warming back to just below average (normal is 62 for a high now).

As people have expected a week out, here’s the problem: the computer models are at odds about exactly how it will all play out. Will it rain on Thanksgiving Day? Black Friday? Later in the weekend? That’s a bit more than we can tell at this point.

TODAY: Sunny and cold, with a high of 49.

TONIGHT: Clear and quite cold. Low of 26.

FRIDAY: Sunny and continued cold. High of 51.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low near freezing.

SATURDAY: Sunny. High of 54.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low near freezing.

SUNDAY: Sunny and cold. High near 50.

MONDAY: Sunny, with a high of 54.

TUESDAY: Clouds, some sun, and a high around 55.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. High of 56.
