Cold air surges in United States, temprature below average

United States: Cold air is spreading across the United States, and within a day or so, temperatures will be below average in nearly all of the country, which is rather unusual. If you were watching college football Saturday, you might have seen snow flying at some of the games in the Great Lakes. Yes, it’s that time of year again.

For an extended period of cold air and mostly dry weather, except for a storm system that will bring us rain — a cold rain — on Tuesday. The computer models had been hinting at a possible storm system on Friday that would’ve brought snow and ice to North Carolina’s higher elevations, but that storm is no longer being forecast.

TODAY: Sunny and much colder, with a high of 54. A northwest breeze, gusting at times to 15-20 mph, will make it seem even colder.

TONIGHT: Clear and cold. Low of 28.

MONDAY: Sunshine and cold. High of 49.

MONDAY NIGHT: Increasing cloudiness. Low of 37.

TUESDAY: An overcast, wet, raw day. Cloudy, with a steady rain much of the day. Cold, with a high of 44.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Rain ends in the evening. But staying cloudy overnight, with a low around 40.

WEDNESDAY: A mix of sun and clouds and chilly, with a high near 55.

THURSDAY: Sunshine mixed with some high clouds. Cold, with a high of 46.

FRIDAY: A mix of sun and clouds and cold. High of 46.

SATURDAY: Sunshine mixed with some high clouds. Continued cold, with a high of 49.
