Trinidad and Tobago: 9 suspects arrested and two firearms seized in anti-crime exercise

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: The Trinidad and Tobago Police informed through its social media account that yesterday, September 6, 2023, Nine suspects were arrested, and two firearms with a significant quantity of ammunition were recovered during early morning anti-crime exercises conducted across the country yesterday.

In the Port of Spain Division, the Police officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force conducted an exercise around 12:55 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2023, during which they intercepted one Nissan Wingroad with five male occupants. 

A search of the vehicle resulted in one Taurus pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition being found and seized. The men, from the Port of Spain and Western Divisions, were arrested in connection with the recovered pistol. He was charged with acquiring an illegal firearm.

Still in the Port of Spain Division, officers conducted an exercise around 3:30 am today, during which they recovered a Toyota Corolla motor vehicle, which was reported taken from its owner at gunpoint in the Central Division. 

In the Central Division, officers of the Emergency Response Patrol Unit, along with personnel of a Joint Police Army Patrol, were able to intercept a Nissan AD Wagon with four Venezuelan nationals around 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. 

A search of the vehicle resulted in a firearm, a quantity of cocaine and several tie straps were found and seized. The four suspects were arrested in connection with the findings. Investigations are ongoing into the above matters.
