Trinidad and Tobago: Over $1M, Marijuana Seized from Market Vendor in Debe

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: Over $1M, Marijuana Seized from Market Vendor in Debe. A man and his wife are currently in police custody after an intelligence-led search conducted at their Debe home resulted in the discovery of over $ 1 million and a quantity of marijuana.

Around 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday, 30th August, officers received pertinent information and proceeded to the home of a market vendor and his common-law wife, located at S.S. Erin Road, Debe.

On arrival, PC Sahadeo of the Gang Unit South Western Division executed a search warrant for Firearms and Ammunition.

When the officers searched the single-bedroom apartment, two cylindrical transparent jars containing marijuana, along with a black plastic bag containing 361 grams of compressed marijuana, were found on top of a table in the living room.

As the exercise continued, a further search of the premises led to the discovery of two medium-sized, black garbage bags, each containing a large amount of Trinidad and Tobago currency.

The bags, which had primarily one-hundred-dollar notes, were found under a bed in the bedroom. The man and woman could not give a satisfactory account of the money found. Both suspects were arrested and conveyed to the Fyzabad Police Station along with the narcotics and bags of cash found.

Sgt. Brisbane, PC Harris, and W.P.C. Rangoo of the Financial Investigations Branch (FIB) counted the seized cash, which amounted to $1,055,100.

The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Remy and Supt Cumberbatch and supervised by A.S.P. Nanan, Insp Prescott, Sgt. Rollocks, Sgt Boodlal, PC Sahadeo, the South Western Division Gang Unit officers, the South Western Division Task Force, and the Siparia Criminal Investigations Department.

PC Sahadeo is continuing enquiries about the offence of Possession of Cannabis, while officers of the F.I.B. are continuing explorations relative to the cash seizure.
