Georgetown, Guyana: A solid unbeaten fifty from Brandon Jaikaran, coupled with four wickets from Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) skipper Nkosi Beaton, helped their side romp to a commanding 6-wicket over Berbice champions Albion yesterday at Bourda Ground.
Albion struggled to score against the formidable bowling duo of Beaton and Mootoo, who restricted them to a meagre total of 128 runs in 44.1 overs. The captain of DCC, Beaton, took four wickets for just 20 runs, while Mootoo claimed three wickets for 20 runs.
The highest scorers for Albion were Damien Cecil with 37 runs, followed by Ari Kadir with 20 runs and Naeem Khan with 16 runs. In addition to Beaton and Mootoo, DCC’s in-form spinner Indarjeet Nanan took one wicket for 17 runs. In comparison, Kareem Whitney and Ricardo Percival took one wicket each, conceding 16 and 17 runs, respectively.
In response to Albion’s below-par total, DCC quickly chased down the target, reaching 130-4 in just 32 overs. Brandon Jaikaran, the wicket-keeper of DCC, played a crucial role in their victory, scoring an unbeaten 52 runs off 89 balls with the help of just two fours.
Nanan (23), Jaden Campbell (20) and ten runs each from Shamar Yearwood and Johnathan Van Lange, who remained not out, was more than enough to take DCC over the line, with wickets and overs to spare. Cecil returned with the ball for Albion, claiming two of the four wickets to fall, ending with 2-32 from his allotted ten overs.
The national final of the Republic Bank Ltd. Under-23 Inter-Club Super50 will be played on Friday between Essequibo champions North Essequibo and DCC at GCC ground. The match will be live-streamed on YouTube and GCB’s Facebook page.
