Narcotics Camp with $3 Million Worth illegal substances discovered and destroyed

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: The Trinidad and Tobago Police Department claims to capture and destroy illegal narcotics worth nearly $3 million during a Cannabis Suppression Operation conducted on September 28, 2023.

The department publicizes the details of its operation through its social media account, mentioning that a team of officers experts in Narcotics suppression conducted this operation between 5:30 and 11:30 AM.

As per the intelligence gathered by the Police, they proceeded to the Wharf Trace area of the North Central Division and discovered several Narcotics substances with a market value of almost $2,950,000.

At the targeted spot, the Police discovered a camp containing approximately 125 pounds of cured Cannabis and one field covering about one lot of land, containing 1,200 fully grown trees and 250 seedlings.

They destroyed every illegal narcotics found. The narcotics cell accomplished another victory in its fight against drug trafficking.

Trinidad Police Commissioner Erla Harewood Christopher congratulated the department and appreciated the bravery of the officers selected for this operation.

He said, “Team is the foundation of success and good Police work. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Department will continue to fight for the safety of its citizens, whoever tries to threaten it”.

He warned the gangs and drug traffickers that the Police officers are well-trained and equipped with high-tech tracking devices. So, it’s impossible to continue the illegal activities in the region.

Commissioner Christopher added, “Drug-related crimes involve technology, data analysis, and on-site investigations. We remain committed to gathering information to assist us in our operations”.

“Every drug bust we make negatively impacts the profits and disrupts the plans of those who engage in illegal activities. We will continue to pressure these criminals and show no signs of letting up”.

The Narcotic suppression operation was conducted by Trinidad Police Training Academy, Air Support Unit, TTPS Jungle Operations Training Team, Multi Optional Police Section (MOPS) and participants of the Cannabis Supply and Demand Management training programme.
