Trinbago Schools’ Relays: Hasely Crawford Stadium Sparks to Get with Regional Rivalry

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: In a rallying call for public support, Secondary Schools Track & Field President Joseph Brewster is gearing up for the highly anticipated Trinbago Schools’ Relays, set to take place at the iconic Hasely Crawford Stadium on January 18.

This prestigious event, formerly known as the Schools Relay Festival, promises an exhilarating showcase of athletic prowess as students from over 50 Trinidadian schools vie for supremacy on the track.

The excitement kicked off with the official launch on Wednesday, January 10, at the Ministry of Education in Port of Spain.

The launch marked the inauguration of the Trinbago Schools’ Relays and signalled the commencement of the 2024 schools’ track and field calendar.

President Joseph Brewster expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This event is not just a competition; it’s a celebration of talent, dedication, and the spirit of sportsmanship. We invite the public to come out in full force and witness the incredible athleticism our young athletes bring to the track.”

A noteworthy aspect of this year’s Trinbago Schools’ Relays is the inclusion of teams from Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Lucia, as SSTF extends a warm invitation to regional schools.

While the confirmation of one more team’s attendance is pending, organizers are optimistic about fostering a sense of camaraderie among Caribbean nations through the universal language of sports.

This grand event serves dual purposes, acting as a standalone competition and a crucial qualifier for the National Secondary Schools’ Track and Field Championships.

With the stakes high, participants will undoubtedly give their best to secure a coveted spot in the national championships.

The Trinbago Schools’ Relays also breaks new ground by opening its doors to primary and tertiary education institutions.

This inclusive approach aims to encourage aspiring athletes from a young age while providing a platform for tertiary institutions to showcase their sporting talent.

As the anticipation builds, the Hasely Crawford Stadium is poised to become a cauldron of energy and enthusiasm, with spectators eagerly awaiting the lightning-fast sprints, nail-biting relays, and gravity-defying jumps that characterize this thrilling sporting spectacle.

In a statement, President Brewster urged the public to join in the excitement, saying, “The support of the community is crucial in nurturing the next generation of athletes. Let us come together, cheer for our schools, and witness the incredible feats these young talents are capable of achieving.”

With the Trinbago Schools’ Relays just a day away, the stage is set for an unforgettable display of athleticism, unity, and the indomitable spirit of youth.

As the sun sets on January 18, the Hasely Crawford Stadium will bear witness to a celebration of talent that transcends borders, leaving an indelible mark on the 2024 schools’ track and field calendar.
