US donates two 40-bed field health care centres to government of Grenada

In the United States, on Thursday, March 10, the authorities have contributed two 40-bed field health care centres to the government of Grenada at the time of the handover ceremony at the Royal Grenada Police Force Service Unit headquarters in St. Georges.

The value of both the two field hospitals is a maximum of US$1 million and is going to help in fighting against the COVID-19 infection and will help in the development of the Ministry of Health’s capacity to handle the future challenges from natural disasters.

Along with this, the donation was made through the U.S. military’s U.S. Southern Command Humanitarian Assistance Program and following more than 98,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines donated to Grenada by the United States government.

Moreover, the U.S. Ambassador to Grenada and the Eastern Caribbean, Linda Taglialatela, along with U.S. Embassy Grenada Principal Officer Karl Duckworth, joined Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell for the handover as well as the tour of one of the field hospitals with officials from the Ministry of Health and other government entities.

Ambassador Taglialatela mentioned that the donation of the field hospital is the other demonstration of the United States’ commitment to the health as well as the well-being of our partners in this hemisphere.

She mentioned, “These field hospitals will support your rapid deployment of first responders and medical personnel to where they are needed most. I applaud their commitment, and that of all frontline workers, to the health and well-being of their fellow citizens.”

However, Prime Minister Mitchell has expressed her gratitude to the USA for donating, and he stated, “The acquisition of these two 40-bed field hospitals valued at over US$1 million represents an extremely significant contribution to a COVID-19 response mechanism and strengthens Grenada’s overall response capacity.”
