Florida man succumbs to bacterial infection from bad oyster

United States: A man from Florida died after he caught a bacterial infection from a “One in a billion” bad oyster, as per the report. 

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the death was traced back to the Rustic Inn Crabhouse in Fort Lauderdale, where the man ate before he got sick with Vibrio. 

Moreover, Gary Oreal reportedly mentioned in the statement, “He had that one in a billion that was bad. I feel horrible.”

Oreal added to the statement, “Oysters are top of the mountain for dangerous foods to eat. I have taken them my whole life as well as will continue. But you are putting yourself at risk when you do it.”

He shared the information with the sources that the Florida Department of Health inspected the restaurant’s kitchen and passed “with flying colours” after the man got sick. 

Along with this, Oreal stated, “Over the course of 60 years, we have served a couple of billion oysters, and we never had anyone get sick as this guy did.”

 The unidentified man, who reportedly worked at a restaurant decades ago, was the second person in the state to die from raw oysters this month. The sources reported that from Vibrio, a community leader dead on August 9. 

Rodney Jackson- Studer Community Institute Director of Business Engagement got ill after he ate at Maria’s Fresh Market, as per the reports.

Both the incident that took place involved oysters sourced from Lousiana.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shared a warning on their official website. While most Vibriosis cases occur in hotter weather, cases have been reported throughout the year. 

Along with this, the CDC stated, “An oyster that contains harmful bacteria doesn’t look, smell, or even taste different from any other oyster.” 

Furthermore, most infections only result in diarrhea and vomiting, as per the agency.
