United States: An India-born British-American novelist, and winner of the world’s top literary prizes- Salman Rushdie, was attacked and stabbed about two times on stage on Friday before a lecture he was planned to give at the Chautauqua Institution in Western New York, according to the States Police.

On Friday, he was on the ventilator and was not able to speak. His agent, Andrew Wylie, as per the sources.

His liver was stabbed and damaged, Salman would likely lose one eye, and the nerves in his arm were severed and damaged. His agent Wylie shared the information that this news was not good.

The accused was identified as Hadi Matar, the 24-year-old from Fairview, new jersey, State Police Troop Commander Major Eugene J. Staniszewski mentioned on Friday evening. The Police officials are working with the FBI as well as local authorities to determine the motive.

The officials are also investigating to obtain search warrants for various items found at the scene, including a backpack as well as electronic devices, says Staniszewski. Authorities believe the suspect was alone but are investigating “To make sure that was the case.”

The suspect jumped onto the stage during the event and stabbed Rushdie at least once in the neck and one time in the abdomen, according to the state police. Staff and audience members rushed the suspect and put him on the ground before a state trooper took the attacker into custody, says the police.

Moreover, Rushdie was airlifted from a field adjacent to the venue in a rural lake resort about 70 miles south of Buffalo to a hospital in northwestern Pennsylvania. Eric Police Department Deputy Chief William Marucci shared the information on Friday.

The co-founder of the Pittsburgh non-profit City of Asylum- Henry Reese, who was scheduled to join Rushdie in the discussion, was transported to the health care wellness centre, treated for a facial injury, and released, according to the police.

President of France- Emmanuel Macron shared the information on his official social media account, he noted, “For 33 years, Salman Rushdie has embodied freedom and the fight against obscurantism. He has just been the victim of a cowardly attack by the forces of hatred and barbarism. His fight is our fight; it is universal. Now more than ever, we stand by his side.”

On the other hand, Anthony Albanese-Prime minister of Australia, stated, “Terrible news of the sickening and cowardly attack on Salman Rushdie in New York. This senseless violence against a celebrated author is also an assault on global freedom of expression and deserves unequivocal condemnation. May he have a full recovery.”
