USA to stop offering free-at home COVID test orders from September 2

United States: The United States of America will suspend free-at-home COVID test orders from the previous week, according to the reports. The federal government reportedly took the step on Tuesday because of a shortage of funds.

In a notice, the official website of the United States government noted, “Ordering through this program will be suspended on Friday, September 2, because Congress hasn’t provided additional funding to replenish the nation’s stockpile of tests.”

The orders will be accepted until Friday.

In the month of January, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, pledged to procure one billion free tests for Americans.

However, half of the tests were to be made through this website. The website was set up during the increase of the Omicron variant. It helps United States citizens secure COVID tests free of cost at home.

The Press Secretary of White House Karine Jean-Pierre mentioned in the statement, “We have already distributed over 600 million tests through this program, and every household has had the opportunity to place about three orders for a total of 16 tests.”

Since the launch of the COVIDTests.gov website in the month of January, the federal government has distributed over 600 million tests. Through the available website, the households could place approximately three orders.

Furthermore, the United States of America has reportedly hit a COVID-19 plateau. BA.5 remains the dominant subvariant in the nation. According to the data from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Omicron variant accounted for 87 percent of new cases in the first week of August.
