Weather Update: tornado watch issued till 10 p.m. across areas of Charlotte

United States: The Former Charlotte Observer weather writer Steve Lyttle updates weather of Carolinas. A tornado watch has been issued until 10 p.m. for much of the Charlotte area.

He took to his official social media account and mentioned in the statement, “A Tornado Watch has been issued until 10 p.m. for much of the Charlotte area, although it would appear as if the most significant threat for our region will come in the time frame of 5 to 8 p.m.

Read here the list of watches includes the following area nations:

NORTH CAROLINA – Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Rowan, Iredell, Alexander, Caldwell, Catawba, Lincoln, Gaston, Cleveland and Rutherford.

SOUTH CAROLINA – Lancaster, York and Chester.

Counties NOT included in the watch include: Anson, Richmond, Stanly and Montgomery in North Carolina, as well as Chesterfield in South Carolina But if people are in a place like Anson or Stanly counties, be watchful of the weather this evening.

A few showers and thunderstorms are moving through Charlotte shortly before 5 p.m. These are NOT part of the main line. They’re known in the meteorology world as “discrete” cells, renegade showers or storms. Sometimes discrete cells can have rotation, but there has been no indication of that with these cells.

There have been 142 severe weather reports today, including 30 tornado reports (all of those from Alabama). No damage reports are in yet from the Carolinas.
