EAM Jai Shankar states zero tolerance against terrorism to UNHCR

India: The External Affairs Minister of India (EAM), Jai Shankar, shared a video message to 52nd United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) high-level segment and stated that India firmly believes that there should be zero tolerance against terrorism around the world on Tuesday,28 February 2023.

Jai Shankar also mentioned that they have been at the forefront of tackling other global issues that harm human rights, particularly terrorism. India always believes there should be zero tolerance regarding terrorism and terrorist activities. He added that, after all, terrorism is the most indefensible violation of human rights that has no justification in any circumstances.

Furthermore, EAM Jai Shankar congratulated Vaclav Balek for being nominated as the Council’s President and assured India’s complete cooperation. Along with this, EAM Jai Shankar talks about India’s collaboration with other council members and observers about achieving consensus that guarantees the council can carry out its core mandate. He added that all basic human rights, including civil, political, economic, social, and cultural, are given equal importance since they are interrelated and indivisible.

EAM Jai Shankar further emphasised that India is reflecting on the past three years, noting that the globe has faced challenges, with developing nations being the worst impacted. Global challenges to exercising human rights include the COVID epidemic, rising food, fuel, and fertiliser costs, and mounting debt loads. India marks 75 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 30 years of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action.

Although, He mentioned details about India’s achievements and schemes under PM Modi’s guidance, such as gender inclusion and women empowerment, equal rights to transgender people, ensuring universal health coverage, accessible and affordable healthcare to 500 million beneficiaries,96 million connections to clean cooking fuel, tap water connections through Jal Jeevan Mission in 2019 and also highlights PM Modi’s vision of “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas”.

EAM Jai Shankar concluded the whole video message by highlighting that India will continue to take all the necessary steps to assuring that we are meeting all our human rights obligations & ensuring that our people are enjoying all their basic human rights.
