The original and last living member of the iconic rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Rossington, lost his life on Sunday, 05 March 2023 and at that time, he was 71 years old.
Through social media, the Lynyrd Skynyrd band provided information about the death of Gary Rossington, confirming to the statement of Rossington’s death on their official Facebook account.
Furthermore, through their update, they remarked that today with their deepest sadness and sympathy, they have to advise they have lost their family member, friend, brother, guitarist and songwriter, Gary Rossington.
Additionally, they expressed their sad demise by adding that Gary will now be with his skynyrd brothers and the family in heaven.
The statement of the update concluded that the whole band is mourning and giving condolences to Mary, Dale, Annie and the entire Rossington family in the prayers and with respect to the family’s privacy at this difficult time.
In regard to Rossington, they provided further information about the innumerable contributions to Lynyrd Skynyrd. They appreciated his slide guitar work in the everlasting opus “Free Bird”, which underscored his importance to the band’s sound. Meanwhile, Gary Rossington also co-wrote two good songs, “Sweet Home Alabama” and “What’s Your Name.”
One of the social media users, Lynda Carol expressed, “So sorry to hear this. My deepest condolences to the Gary Rossington’s family, friends and fans. I know heaven is rockin tonight.” While another user, Rebecca L Gladden stated, “Omg…no. This is heartbreaking. RIP, Gary Rossington. A true Lynyrd Skynyrd legend. Prayers for every single one you. Dale Krantz Rossington I am truly so sorry for your loss. His memory will live on forever.” And the third user Todd Wethington added, “RIP you will be missed, last original of the greatest band in music history, a very sad day for all Skynard fans and his loved ones.”
