Read Here: Castaway Cay, private island owned by Disney cruise lines

Castaway Cay, the island in The Bahamas, is a private island owned by Disney cruise lines. It is a 99-year lease purchased by Disney Cruise Line from the Bahamian government in 1997 and is an exclusive port destination reserve for DCL Ships to dock as port-of-call visits.

During the stay, an individual can access a free tram from the dock to one of three stops. From there, visitors can go to waterslides and kids and adults-only areas.

Cruise lovers and worldwide travellers are so interested to see what kind of itineraries Disney will plan for the 8th vessel Global-class ship, which is set to debut in Singapore in 2025. 3/4-night short roundtrip cruises are more acceptable in Southeast Asia.

Many cruise lines have purchased “private islands” since 1992 to provide their clients with privileged beach experiences. These islands have been further developed to include restaurants and other activities like zip lines, waterparks, horseback riding, spas, and more.

Because the cruise line possesses every amenity on the remote island, they can keep all the funds made from it (for example, from the food, beverages, and activities).

As a result, they try to incorporate their own island as a stop on as many itineraries as possible. Similar to Castaway Cay Island, some more private islands are owned by various cruise lines.

In Southeast Asia, only Macleod Island and Nyaung Oo Phee in Myanmar are considered private islands operated by different local resort operators, where Genting Dream, previously under the Dream Cruises brand, visited in 2017 – 2019.

Common sailings by the majority of cruise lines that homeported their ships in Singapore were plying over traditional routes to Malaysia ports such as Port Klang / Penang and Phuket island in Thailand. They extended to Vietnam and the Philippines for longer days of itineraries.

Great Stirrup Cay, another island in the Bahamas owned and operated by Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). As per Wikipedia, Norwegian Cruise Line acquired the island from the Belcher Oil Company in 1977 and transformed it into a private island for use by passengers of their cruise ships.
