Royal Caribbean International announces Spectrum of the Seas to resume China deployment Operation

The Royal Caribbean International announced that Spectrum of the Seas will resume China deployment operation in April 2024, based in Shanghai homeport (Baoshan).

The 169,379 tons Quantum-ultra class cruise ship will be sailing short 4-night to 7-night long cruises from Shanghai, visiting popular destinations in Japan such as Tokyo, Yokohama, Miyako, Osaka, Okinawa and more.

This official announcement’s update has ended speculation on an Oasis-class ship appearing in Asia. As per the previous update made by Royal Caribbean International, the first expectation was Utopia of the Seas. The under-construction sixth Oasis Class Cruise ship is expected to enter service in 2024.

Utopia of the Seas is recently tipped to replace Wonder of the Seas 2024/25 Florida-based Eastern & Western Caribbean itineraries. If there’s no Covid-19 pandemic, the fifth Oasis-class, Wonder of the Seas, should already be in Shanghai homeport by now.

The second expectation is to resume Chinese deployment operations on April 2024 was Spectrum of the Seas. On May 8, 2023, it was predicted that the vessel may leave Singapore after March 2024 to reposition in China for her Summer and Autumn seasons before returning to Singapore for the Winter and following year’s Spring season operation.

Today, Royal Caribbean International made it official that the Quantum class Cruise ship will resume China deployment operation in April 2024.

However, the RCL (Regional Container Lines) still hopes to recover the operation in China in a step-by-step phase gradually. The Oasis-class ship is anticipated to be activated when the time is ripe.

Additionally, Singapore will have a partial year-round homeport deployment for Royal Caribbean ships from 2024 onwards. The spectrum of the Seas is going to split the homeport operating seasons between China and Singapore.

The Spectrum of the Seas is a cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International. It belongs to the Quantum Ultra class, which is a modified version of the Quantum class of ships. The vessel was built in Papenburg, Germany, by Meyer Werft and was delivered in April 2019.
