CWI appoints legendary Brain Lara as performance mentor

Brian Lara, the West Indies legend, is appointed as a performance mentor to guide the Windies in their matches with India, starting from July 12, 2023, to August 13. Two test matches, three ODI and four T20, will be played during India’s tour of the West Indies.

The West Indies Cricket Board believes that Lara’s presence and guidance will improve the Windies’ performance against India. In past months, West Indies performed quite disappointingly as they failed to qualify for ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time in 48 years. On July 1, 2023 Windies’ humiliating loss against West Indies crushed their dreams of playing the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

The first match will be played at Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau, Dominica. Brian Lara, the legendary batsman, played 131test games and 299 ODI during his career. He scored astonishing 11,953 runs in test format with 34 centuries and 48 half-centuries.

His record of scoring 400* in 582 balls is still unbreakable. During a test match against England, hitting 43 fours and 4 sixes. As a performance mentor, his experience and tactics are believed to improve Windies’ performance. The team faces a difficult face after failing to qualify for World Cup.

Brian Lara’s involvement with the current Windies team will significantly support test matches, especially for batters. Additionally, the West Indies legend shared the video of his dismissal in 1997 by former England wicket-keeper Alec Stewart who used the same tactics to send him pavilion back. Commenting on the controversial dismissal of England’s batter Johny Bairstow, he stated that there was no problem with the spirit of the game.
