Yesterday marks a historic day for West Indies Cricket. On this day during a 1983 World Cup game, West Indies pacer Winston Davis recorded bowling figures of 7 for 51 against Australia.

It was the world record for best bowling figures in an ODI at the time. Record stood for more than eight years until Pakistan’s Aaqib Javed broke it in 1991 with his figures of 7 for 37 against India.

Winston Davis has become Tetraplegia since 1998 due to a fall from a tree while helping to clear land for a church. He later appeared in a film made by the social services department of Worcestershire County Council. He said, “People with a disability can often be seen as just takers, and so for me, starring in this film allowed me to give something back to the community”.
