Windward Islands hands another loss to Jamaica, won by 4 wickets

The Windward Islands Volcanoes handed the Jamaica Scorpions yet another loss in the 2023 CG United Super50 Cup in a bottom-of-the-table clash between the sides on Sunday evening at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

The Scorpions had demonstrated another display of poor batting performance as they were bowled out for 158 in 42.2 overs.

Winning the toss, the Windward Islands decided to bowl first and shattered the Jamaican batting lineup one after another.

Nkrumah Bonner made the only score of note, scoring 72 off 110 balls, which included 5 fours and probably saved the Jamaicans from being knocked out below hundred in a 50-over match.

Test discard Nkrumah Bonner returned to form with a half-century, but Jamaica Scorpions crashed to a four-wicket defeat to Windward Islands Volcanoes.

The Jamaica fans appreciated Bonner for his remarkable innings and for providing an opportunity to cheer for their team.

Chasing just 159, the Volcanoes made it more of a game than they would’ve wanted to, losing 6 wickets before getting to their target in the 37th over.

Johnson Charles, who made 13, and Alick Athanaze, who made 36, got their side to 41 before they suffered a mini-collapse of their own, losing 4 wickets for 30 runs to end up 71 for 4.

Sunil Ambris and Jeremy Solozano added 40 to steady the ship before Ambris got out for 15, and Solozano followed shortly after for a top score of 40 off 75 balls.

Shamar Springer scored 24 not out and managed to see the Winwards over the line as they got their first win of the 2023 Super50.

Bowling for Jamaica, Jeavor Royal, Brad Barnes, Odean Smith and Shalome Parnell took 1 wicket each as the Scorpions’ unfortunate title defence continues.
