Florida: Health department issues fresh guidance on COVID-19 vaccination recommendations for children

In the United States, the Florida Department of Health is the only state in the entire nation that has issued the guidance saying that healthy children from the ages of 5 to 17 may not be able to benefit from receiving the COVID-19 infection vaccine.

The Department recommends that the young ones with underlying conditions are the most suitable candidates for the vaccination against the COVID-19 infection.

Moreover, Governor Ron DeSantis hosted a gathering in which the Surgeon General, Dr Joseph A. Ladapo, made an announcement.

The Surgeon General, Dr Joseph A. Ladapo, mentioned, “It is essential for health care practitioners to analyze existing data on the COVID-19 vaccine alongside parents when deciding to vaccinate children. Based on current data, the risks of administering vaccination against COVID-19 among healthy young ones may outweigh the benefits. That is why these plans should be made on an basis of people and never mandated.”

Along with this, the guidance from the Surgeon General Dr Joseoh A. Ladapo, which was issued on March 8 (Guidance for Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccines), reads the state recognizes that the parent should also worry while thinking about taking a health decision for their children. The health care practitioners must look upon all of the data to evaluate the risks and the benefits unique to every patient when identifying which health care is imperative for them.

On the other hand, the decisions should be based on all individuals. The risks of administering a COVID-19 vaccination to healthy children may outweigh the advantages. The Florida Department of Health has published the guidelines.

However, on Monday, the Governor of Florida organized a roundtable with the world’s well-known physicians and epidemiologists to discuss the failure of lockdowns and mandates in response to COVID-19, such as the negative impacts on the mental health associated with the isolation.

Meanwhile, the experts also had a word on the risks of the COVID-19 infection to the young ones who have good health, weighed against the low threat that COVID-19 illness poses to them.

Furthermore, Dr Martin Kulldorff, “If you are 75 years old and you haven’t had COVID-19, then I think it is a no brainer to get the vaccine because you are at the high risk – even if there is a small risk for an adverse reaction – that is much less than the benefit from the vaccine or preventing death. For children, the story is very, very different. I think in public health, it is important, to be honest, not only about what we know but also what we don’t know. If you go back and look at the randomized trials for children of the Pfizer vaccine that we used for the emergency use authorization, what those trials showed – and they had about a little over 4,000 people in total in these two trials – is that there is the reduction in mild infections. If you look at serious disease, the hospitalization and deaths, there was none.”
