Record-setting cold wave begins to relent in Carolina

Carolina, United States: The Former Charlotte Observer weather writer Steve Lyttle shared the update on the weather of Carolina, and a record-setting cold wave started to relent.

Steve took to his official social media account and mentioned in the statement, “Slowly but surely, the powerful surge of arctic air that made life miserable for millions of people over Christmas weekend is relaxing its grip. We had another bitterly cold night in the Charlotte region and the rest of the Carolinas, but things should be getting warmer from here.”

Read Here the full weather update:

There is one final bit of wintry weather heading toward the Carolinas, but it won’t amount to much. A weak low-pressure system will swing across the area Monday night and early Tuesday.

It is bringing light snow to Nashville and the western two-thirds of Tennessee today, but it will be more moisture-starved as it reaches the Carolinas. Snow flurries are likely tonight in the western mountains and the Greenville-Spartanburg area.

If you happen to be out and about in the early-morning hours Tuesday, people might see a few flurries in the Charlotte area. But that’ll be the extent of things.

Some notes from the brutally cold holiday weekend:

CHRISTMAS EVE (Dec. 24): The morning low of 9 was the second-coldest ever for Charlotte on Dec. 24. The high of 29 tied a record (first set in 1906) for the coldest high temperature for the date.

  •  And the average temperature (aver of high and low) of 19 degrees was the coldest ever for Dec. 24.
