Carolinas to witness more sunshine on Thursday, says weather writer Steve Lyttle

United States: Steve Lyttle, Former Charlotte Observer weather writer, shares updates on Carolinas weather. There is more sunshine than expected today.

Steve Lyttle took to his official social media account and highlighted in the statement, “We got more sunshine than expected today, and that allowed the temperature to soar across the Charlotte region. At 2 p.m., it was 72 degrees at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and that’s close to the January 3 record of 74, set in 2004.”

Later in the afternoon and this evening, cloud cover will take over, as a strong storm system as well as a cold front approach the Charlotte region from the west in Carolinas

This system is responsible for a number of tornado watches and severe thunderstorm warnings Tuesday morning and afternoon across the South. At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, one Tornado Watch stretches as close to them as northeast Georgia.

The short-range computer models predict that severe storms will weaken later today as they reach the western Carolinas. But don’t be surprised to hear a rumble of thunder late this evening or in the early morning hours.

A lull in precipitation is possible overnight, but the showers will pick up again by daybreak as the cold front approaches. Severe thunderstorms are a possibility across the area Wednesday morning and early afternoon before the front passes.

He shared a graphic in which he included the National Weather Service office in Greer, to explain more about the threat in Carolinas.
