Number of damages reported across several parts of Carolinas due to strong winds: Weather expert

United States: Weather writer Steve Lyttle shared the update on the weather in Carolinas on January 13, 2023. The states of United States is apparently managed to avoid any tornadoes with Thursday night’s strong thunderstorms. According to the weather forecaster, there were several wind damage reports across the area.

They took to their official social media account and highlighted in the statement, “While the Carolinas apparently managed to avoid any tornadoes with Thursday night’s strong thunderstorms, there were a number of wind damage reports across the area. Thousands of people lost power, including here at the ol’ weather bunker in Matthews. But as I’ve written before, we live on an archaic part of the power grid that fails anytime there are more than two clouds in the sky.”

The totals from Thursday across the South:

TORNADO reports — 45 (37 in Alabama, 8 in Georgia)

WIND DAMAGE reports — 227

LARGE HAIL reports — 24 (none in the Carolinas)

Charlotte-area wind damage reports came from Gaston County (5 reports); Cleveland County (4, with one injury); York (3); Cabarrus (3); Iredell (3); Mecklenburg (2, from SouthPark and Mint Hill); Lincoln (2); Rowan (1); Stanly (1); and Rutherford (1).

Now people are dealing with a brief return of winter, and they feel it over the next few days. Temperatures will be at or a bit below average, and they will have gusty northwest winds to make it feel even colder. But it will be nothing even remotely close to what we endured around Christmas.

Meanwhile, snow will be falling in the mountain counties that border Tennessee. Above 3,500 feet, there could be 1-2 feet of snow in places. About 1-2 inches are likely at the lower elevations (especially above 2,500 feet).

TODAY: Sunshine, mixed with a few clouds, and colder. Our high of 52 will be right around average, but a northwest wind gusting to 20 mph will put wind chills in the 30s.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and colder, with a low of 30 and a northwest breeze making it feel colder.

SATURDAY: A mix of sun and clouds and cold, with a high of 47. It will remain breezy, with wind chills in the 30s.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Clearing and cold. Low near 25.

SUNDAY: Sunny and cold. High of 49.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Clear, with a low of around 30.

MONDAY: The MLK Holiday will be sunny, with some high clouds in the afternoon. High of 53.

TUESDAY: Clouds, with a few showers, and a high near 55.
