Weather: Carolinas to witness snow fall overnight, chances of doggone cold

United States: Weather Writer Steve Lyttle shared updates on the weather in Carolinas, as per the weather forecaster, the snow fell overnight and Saturday morning in parts of the mountains of North Carolina. 

He took to his official social media account and highlighted in the statement, “It went pretty much as advertised. Snow fell overnight and Saturday morning in parts of North Carolina’s mountains, and it’s pretty doggone cold here in Piedmont.”

  •  Sugar Mountain … 4.8 inches (as of 11:30 a.m.)
  • 1 mile north of Banner Elk … 7 inches (9 a.m.)
  • 4 miles north of Asheville … 3 inches (7 a.m.) 
  • Jonah Ridge, in Burke County … 1-inch northeast of Maggie Valley … 6-7 inches (about 1.5 inches in town) in northern Madison, Mitchell counties … 6-8 inches 6 miles north of Swiss, in Yancey County … 23.5 inches.

By the way, the official report on Thursday’s tornado in Gaston County: It touched down near Old Willis School Road, 2 miles south-southwest of Stanley, crossed North Carolina 27 south of Stanley, and dissipated east of Stanley-Lucia Road, the storm had top winds of 75 mph (EF0) and was on the ground for 6.09 miles.

The weather forecaster included a photo taken at 3 p.m., on N.C. 184 near Banner Elk.

REST OF TODAY: Sunny and cold, with a high of 46. Northwest winds gusting to 20 mph will drop wind chills into the mid-30s.

TONIGHT: Clear and cold. Low of 24.

SUNDAY: Sunny and chilly. High of 50, but winds will be nearly calm.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Low near 30.

MONDAY: The MLK Holiday will be sunny, with some high clouds mixing in. A bit milder, with a high of 54.

MONDAY NIGHT: Becoming cloudy. Low of 43. Showers will arrive after 3 or 4 a.m.

TUESDAY: Cloudy, with showers ending by 10 a.m. High of 56.

WEDNESDAY: Clouds and limited sun, but quite mild. High of 63.

THURSDAY: Cloudy and mild, with off-and-on showers. High of 67.

FRIDAY: Sunshine returns, and it will be rather mild, with a high of 58.
