Embassy of Ukraine in USA highlights launch of “Ukrainian Days 2023 in Congress”

 Washington: The Embassy of Ukraine in the USA took to social media and highlighted the launch of the “Ukrainian Days 2023 in Congress” through an update shared through their official Facebook account on Thursday, 9 March 2023, at 9:49 pm.

As per the update, Ambassador Oksana Markarova, the President of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Andriy Futey, and the Director of Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS) Mykhailo Savkiv were the main elements of the launch of Ukrainian Days 2023 in Congress.

Furthermore, the participants from all over the USA started the day by adding a briefing for the ambassador, and regarding this they also commemorated the ceremony at the Holodomor memorial.

 In addition to this, They also participated in Congressional meetings and the “Friends of UNIS” award ceremony by honouring the co-chairs of the Helsinki Commission, US Congressmen Steven Cohen and Joe Wilson, as well as the Ambassador of Estonia to the USA Kristjan Prikk.

According to the sources, The first in-person “Ukrainian Days” advocacy fete in a new 118th Congress was held on Wednesday, 8 March 2023 and Thursday, 9 March 2023, in Washington, DC. Sponsored by the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS), the advocacy event had been an important endeavour for the Ukrainian American community, especially by giving the urgent support needed for Ukraine to defend its territory against invading Russian forces. 

Meanwhile, the key points mentioned in the March 8-9th advocacy event are as follows:

  • The March 8-9th advocacy event was used as an opportunity to meet in person with newly-elected Members of Congress and acquaint them with our concerns for the increased security assistance for Ukraine.
  • It also played a vital role in continuing strong sanctions against Russia and a designation of Russia as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, including recognition of the genocide of Holodomor by supporting for humanitarian programs to aid Ukrainians afflicted by the war.
  •  They highlighted the “Ukrainian Days” advocacy program that included the presentations of the “Friend of UNIS” award to Members of Congress and others who have shown overwhelming support for Ukraine and the enhancement of U.S.-Ukraine relations.
  •  The March 8-9th advocacy event was dedicated to Taras Shevchenko, who came to Washington, DC in March 2023 and always volunteered to advance the community’s concerns in Washington and met the Members of Congress!
