Miss Universe 1970, Marisol Malaret passed away yesterday, on 19 March 2023, at the age of 73. She was the first Puerto Rican and Caribbean woman to be crowned Miss Universe in late 1970.
As per her achievements, she was honoured with the welcoming at San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, which is still considered as one of the biggest welcoming ever at that time.
Further, it was called Isla Verde International Airport.

Malaret was born in Puerto Rico in Utuado on 13 October, 1949. Due to her father’s death and her mother’s chronic illness, she had to start her work from an early age.
According to sources, Carmen Andino, a Puerto Rican makeup artist, convinced Miss Universe 1970 Marisol Malare to enter the Miss Puerto Rico pageant, which was then run by Anna Santisteban, a Puerto Rican businesswoman, beauty entrepreneur and modelling expert.
Marisol Malaret establishes herself as the local contest crowd’s favourite. She makes a place in their heart because of her morally admirable character, her strong will to make fair decisions and implement them and also by her stunning beauty.
Before winning the Miss Universe 1970 pageant, Marisol Malare worked as an executive secretary somewhere at Puerto Rico Telephone Company.
Malaret lived in a joint family with her father, Jose Antonio Malaret and mother, Lydia Contreras, her brother Jass, and five half-siblings named Joseph, Alicia, Rita, Antonio, and Raul.
Furthermore, she had previously married three times, her first marriage was with Butch James, a former male model and her second marriage was with Corky Stroman, a musician with whom she had a child named Sasha. Her third marriage was with Frank Cue, a Cuban-born engineer.
