USA Swimming offers cash incentives for relay success at 2024 Paris Olympics

According to reports, USA Swimming has devised a relay incentive scheme for participants at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

USA Swimming has created a relay incentive program for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, and the 2024 Paris Olympics. The program will offer incentives for seven different relay races, including the men’s and women’s 4x100m medley relays, 4x100m freestyle relays, 4x200m freestyle relays, and the mixed 4x100m medley relay.

Should the USA Swimming team manage to win all seven relays at the Paris Olympics, a total of $1 million (£829,000/€945,000) will be shared among the team members. Additionally, if the team places on the medal tally podium, they will receive $250,000 (£205,000/€236,000).

In case the USA Swimming team manages to emerge victorious in all seven relay competitions at the World Aquatics Championships, they will divide $500,000 (£411,000/€473,000) among the members who competed in the pool and open water events.

Furthermore, if they succeed in securing a place in the top three positions on the medal tally, they will receive $150,000 (£123,000/€140,000) to split amongst themselves.

Lindsay Mintenko, the managing director of USA Swimming, expressed that the relay incentive program is unprecedented and aims to achieve extraordinary success in relay events. While some may consider swimming to be an individual sport, the team focus is vital to the success of USA Swimming. The organization has a proud history of excelling in Olympic and World Championship relays, and they intend to nurture that culture and camaraderie among the next generation of swimmers.

To secure automatic qualification for the relays at the Olympics, the USA Swimming team must finish in the top three at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka. If they are unable to do so, they will need to place within the top 13 in both the 2023 edition and the subsequent 2024 championships in Doha, Qatar, to secure their qualification. The 2023 World Aquatics Championships are scheduled to take place from July 14 to 30.
