Georgetown, Guyana: Guyana Amazon Warriors has scored the highest runs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Season 2023.
Today, during the match against Barbados Royals at Providence Stadium, the home ground of GAW, the home team scored 226 runs in first innings by losing seven wickets, the highest runs scored by a team in first innings.
SKN Patriots rank second in highest-scoring runs, batting first against Barbados Royals on September 4, 2023. The Royals successfully chased the target of 221; their victory was recorded as the highest run chase so far in CPL 2023.
Shai Hope, the Barbadian, played dominating innings, scoring 106 runs in just 44 balls, hitting 9 fours and 8 sixes. He smashes Raheem Cornwall, the off-spinner, 32 runs in a single over, completing his century in just 41 balls with a dazzling strike rate of 240.91.
The dominating innings of 106 runs came to an end on last ball of seventeenth over. He was caught at deep square leg while playing a pull shot; Jason Holder finally delivered a breakthrough after 10 overs of complete dominance unleashed by Shai Hope.
Arriving on the pitch at number 3, Hope already intended to play devastatingly; the Barbadian and opening batsman of West Indies completed half a century in 23 balls and another half in just 18 balls.
Shai Hope’s century assisted Guyana Amazon Warriors to set a record-breaking target of 227 runs, the highest in CPL 2023. He also ranks second in hitting the fastest century, following Andre Russell. He completed the century in just 40 balls in 2018.
From the bowling side, Imran Tahir was the most successful bowler from Guyanese side. Giving only 23 runs in his 4-over spell, he took three wickets, two in a single over.
He dismissed Barbadian skipper Rowmen Powell and Dominican youngster Alick Athanaze in a single over and later sent Jason Holder back to pavilion in 15th over.
Barbados Royals scored 138 runs by losing six wickets in 20 overs. Guyana Amazon Warriors sealed another victory by 88 runs and remain on the top of CPL 2023 point table with 17 points.
The GAW will face Trinbago Knight Riders on September 21, 2023, at Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana, the Home ground of Guyana Amazon Warriors.
