To prepare for Republic Day in a big way, a group of women and young girls in the Jammu and Kashmir district of Kupwara have launched a campaign. This one was launched after a positive response to an earlier comparable campaign. By teaching women and young girls how to sew through the Vajra Cutting and Tailoring programme, the campaign hopes to empower them. The occasion will occur in Dardpora, also known as the “Village of Widows.”
The programme was started to help women become financially and economically independent. The Indian Army has made a significant contribution to the programme by funding the training of young girls and providing the necessary equipment. Twenty young girls volunteered to take part in the programme and were taught how to stitch the Tiranga, the Indian flag, to meet the demands coming from various areas in the Kupwara district.
The villagers promised to raise their flags on Republic Day in remembrance of the work done by the Indian Army. In addition to commemorating the national holiday, the campaign aims to empower the women and young girls of the village and instil in them a sense of pride and self-worth.
