Cleanup efforts will continue as permanent solution to the blight: Redding Police Officials

United States: Redding Police Department in California, shared an update on their officers’ efforts to address the blight underneath the west end of the Cypress Bridge, off of Park Marina Drive.

They took to their official social media account and shared the information, mentioned in the statement, “This morning, our Community Work Program Officers (CWPOs), with the assistance of offenders from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Alternative Custody Program, continued our efforts to address the blight underneath the west end of the Cypress Bridge, off of Park Marina Drive.”

They are working together. They filled a dump trailer with loose trash, unlawfully dumped items (including a sofa), and abandoned shopping carts, as well as extinguished an illegal “warming” fire that was burning when they arrived.

They said, “Our cleanup efforts will continue as we work towards a viable as well as a permanent solution to the blight not only in this area, but throughout our community.”

On the other hand, Redding Police Department also highlighted that their Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT), consisting of Officers Ketel and Bland with Mental Health Clinician Nikki Brandon, conducted homeless outreach underneath the west end of the Cypress Bridge, off of Park Marina Drive, and along the canal behind City Hall and Crown Motors, off of Parkview Avenue.

These two areas have been the source of several reports that they have received recently regarding illegal encampments and unlawful dumping. The outreach conducted by CIRT yesterday was an effort to get the homeless individuals, in those areas specifically, off of our streets as well as into shelter during their recent inclement weather.

Resources were provided, and beds for both men and women at the Good News Rescue Mission were available and offered to the individuals that CIRT contacted. Unfortunately, none of these individuals accepted their offer of shelter or assistance.

They will continue to work towards a viable and permanent solution to the blight in these two areas, and throughout our community.
